Heritage Award for the Ladder Project

Last night the Ladder Project won the Adaptation and Re-use category of the Port Adelaide Enfield Council Heritage Award. Congratulations to all the Greenway Team, including Peter Tynan, Jon Lowe, Samantha Hay, Hannah Baison and Jarrad McGaffin. We would also like to recognise the efforts of our consultant team, namely, Bruce Harry Architects (Heritage), W & G (Structural & Civil), SECON (Services), Sonus (Acoustics), and Tecon (Certification).

Candetti Constructions did a fantastic job with a very complex and fragile building site – thanks to Graham Cox, Anthony Burns, and George Floros.

A special thanks to Julian Aggiss (Housing SA/ DFC) for his vision, determination, and perserverance.

Building V launched at Mawson Lakes

UniSA’s $16 million Building V facility (the Mawson Institute) was officially launched at the Mawson Lakes campus this month (June) by Premier Mike Rann, and has been recognised as an educational leader in sustainability in the process.

The Green Building Council of Australia has awarded the building a five star Green Star which represents Australian excellence in environmentally sustainable design and construction.

The Community Achievement Awards will be launched at 10:30am on Wednesday 22nd June, at the Stamford Grand Adelaide (Jetty Rd Glenelg). The Honourable Grace Portolesi MP, Minister for Volunteers will officially launch the call for nominations and a free morning tea will be served.

Don’t underestimate the value of nominating someone who has served you well. People that contribute to the community don’t look for a pat on the back, but they deserve one, and these Awards are the perfect way to say thanks and to acknowledge their efforts.

Regional cities going for growth

SOUTH Australia’s Playford local government area in Adelaide’s north is the latest region to cash in the nation’s predicted population boom by creating a completely new central business district.

Playford’s population of 80,000 is expected to more than double to 169,000 by 2038. The council area comprises 35 suburbs 30km from the Adelaide CBD including the already developed Elizabeth area.

Clipsal SA Solutions Project of the Month – State Aquatic Centre & GP Plus Development

In May 2010 Leonard Electrics embarked on the exciting challenge of providing the electrical services to the State Aquatic Centre and GP Plus Marion. The project included a 5-storey car park and urban plaza flowing between the two buildings.

The Aquatic Centre comprised of a 50m Competition Pool, Water Polo and Dive Pool with grandstand seating and a Leisure Water area. The facility also contains world-class training and fitness areas, as well as retail spaces and admin work areas.

Lighting throughout the complex is controlled via C-Bus colour touch screens, as well as the car park and Plaza. Due to the nature of the building the use of fibreglass and stainless steel products was required.

The GP Plus Health Facility includes an undercroft car park and 4 levels of medical care. Many areas were required to meet AS3003 for Patient Treatment with the extensive use of the Medilec Range. Again C-Bus was used to control lighting throughout the building.

The 10million dollar electrical contract was completed in less than 12 months, with 38 Electricians working at its peak delivering the successful handover to the State Government on time.
